Starlight Dome Project (Planetarium)

Bringing the Universe to Every Child

The Starlight Dome Project will bring a fully immersive geodesic dome planetarium to George, opening up the wonders of space, science, and exploration to children and schools who would otherwise never have access to such an experience.

For many children in rural or disadvantaged communities, visiting a planetarium in a big city is simply not possible. This project changes that—bringing the universe to them in a way that sparks curiosity, imagination, and a love for science.

Inside the dome, children will experience breathtaking journeys through space, interactive science shows, and hands-on learning designed to inspire future innovators, dreamers, and explorers.

The dome has been generously sponsored by a UK-based company, but we still need to raise funds for shipment to South Africa and the travel costs for the engineers who will install and set up this life-changing experience.

What is a Geodesic Planetarium Dome?

A Geodesic Planetarium Dome is a specially designed dome-shaped structure that creates an immersive, 360-degree projection space—turning the inside into a portable planetarium or digital theatre.

The dome’s unique geometric design makes it lightweight, durable, and easy to assemble, while its curved interior provides a fully immersive viewing experience. Shows and presentations are projected across the entire inner surface, surrounding the audience with visuals of space, science, nature, and more.

Unlike traditional planetariums found in large cities, geodesic domes can be set up almost anywhere, bringing the magic of the universe to schools, small towns, and communities who may never otherwise have access to this kind of learning.

It’s more than just a movie - it's a journey through the stars, an invitation to dream, and an unforgettable learning experience for all ages.
